Though various reasons have been attributed to the actors suicide, one is still unsure of what exactly drove him to take such a drastic step. The untimely death of the actor has once again underscored the importance of underlying mental health issues and the need to address them on priority, without hesitation. While we were still recovering from the shock of Irrfan Khan, Rishi Kapoor and Wajid Khan’s sudden demise, on Sunday morning, Bollywood lost one of the most promising actors ? Sushant Singh Rajput ? at 34. Post-mortem, done at Cooper Hospital in Juhu, Mumbai, confirmed the actor killed himself by hanging on a ceiling fan. The police had also found a few medical reports from his residence that suggested Sushant was under stress and depression for the last six months. Sushant Singh Rajput has also tested negative for COVID-19. 

On Sunday afternoon, just when Sushants father KK Singh sat for lunch, he got a call from Mumbai Police informing him about his sons death. Singh upon hearing the news fell unconscious. He was in a state of shock; friends and neighbours tried to console him.

Chronology of events as reported in India TV that transpired on June 14:  

Sunday 9:30 am: Sushant locked himself in the room after having juice.

10:30 am: His cook knocked on the door to ask about luch. There was no response.

12:00 pm: The cook knocked on the door again; there was no response. This set off the alarm bells.

12:15 pm: Sushants sister was intimated

12:50 pm: His sister arrived and tried opening the door. There was no response from inside.

1:15 pm: A locksmith was called to break the lock. When the room was opened, Sushant Singh Rajput’s body was found hanging inside the room.

A lot was speculated about the late actor being in a financial stress as the rent of his duplex flat at Carter Road in Bandra, Mumbai was around Rs 4.51 lakhs per month. Certain reports also revealed that the actor had already paid a deposit of Rs 12,90,000 as he was supposed to reside in that properly till December 2022. However, his sister claimed the actor didn’t face any financial difficulties.

As reported in India TV, the late actors brother had said the former was supposed to get married in November 2020. Incidentally, Sushants former girl friend of six years Ankita Lokhande ? as per her pictures on her Instagram account posted on May 6, had got engaged to her partner Vicky Jain.

As soon as reports of Sushants death surfaced, his last post (on June 3) on Instagram with a cryptic message started gaining momentum. Sushant had posted an image of his mother alongside his. He wrote, Blurred past evaporating from teardrops. Unending dreams carving an arc of smile. And a fleeting life, negotiating between the two…

Sushants fitness coach, who last spoke to the actor on June 1 told TOI, To be honest, I’m actually out of words. Recently, I had a word with him on June 1. He called me when my mother passed away because of cancer. He told me, if at all you need anything or whatsoever, feel free to give me a call and I know how it feels to lose a mother? as he lost his mother at the age of 16. He asked me to take care of my father and family. That was the last time that I spoke to him, that’s it. I did know about the depression part and we were trying to get back on track with the workouts and everything. But after lockdown, we weren’t able to stay in touch. Also, because of my mother’s demise I have been too caught up. To be very honest the depression part had been going on, but it had never really affected his work and other things.

Producer Mukesh Bhatt told TimesNow, I had met him (Sushant) on a number of occasions. He had come to our office for Aashiqui 2, but things didn’t work out then. Then when we were beginning Sadak 2, Alia and Mahesh Bhatt said that Sushant was very keen. He came over and met me, we spent about an hour talking about various things.

He said, I could make out he was a very disturbed soul. There was something about him that I felt, he was not connected. That bothered me more than anything else. It was about a year-and-a-half back. He was a very disturbed boy. He was not there, while talking to me, I felt that he was not on the same plain. There was something amiss, something wrong.

Bhatt further added, I started my career way back with Parveen Babi, she was also a victim of schizophrenia. I remember telling my brother, that I am afraid he (Sushant) is also going the Parveen Babi way. I am not shocked, because I saw this coming.

Sushant who became a household name after TV serial Pavitra Rishta, in 2009, left the show in 2011. He made his Bollywood debut in 2013 in Kai Po Che and went on to give hit films.

When we spoke to Dr Sudhir Bhave, renowned psychiatrist, he said, I don’t know the exact case but people in general need to realise depression is an illness like malaria, tuberculosis, etc. Just because a person said to be in depression is earning good money and is popular and successful, doesn’t mean he can’t get depressed. There are several factors; depression doesn’t depend on success or failure. There are many who get good treatment and recover gradually; there are some who don’t.

He added, Depressed people before ending their lives, often get entangled in emotions for days; they are in a state of simultaneous conflicting reactions known as Ambivalence. They doubt if the extreme step they’re going to take would be right or wrong. In Sushants case, his last Instagram post referring to his mother could be a dilemma too.

Sushant was found dead at his residence located in Bandra (West) in Mumbai on Sunday (June 14). The actors team shared a message for his fans which read It pains us to share that Sushant Singh Rajput is no longer with us. Sushant had his first brush with success with Ekta Kapoors TV show Pavitra Rishta alongside Ankita Lokhande. He then made his debut in 2013 with the movie Kai Po Che!

A couple of days ago, Sushants former manager Disha Salian died after falling off a high-rise in Mumbai’s Malad. Initially reported as a case of suicide, the police then registered the case of accidental death. Offering condolences to Dishas family, Sushant had written: It’s such a devastating news. My deepest condolences to Disha’s family and friends. May your soul rest in peace.

While health workers all over India are fighting the COVID-19 crisis to keep citizens safe, a touching tale of a lawyer sacrificing his life to save his client has come to the fore. Former Mumbai Magistrate Siddharth Munghate succumbed to coronavirus, which he contracted after he helped one of his clients get treatment at a COVID-19 hospital. Advocate Munghate died at the age of 65 at Mumbai’s Seven Hills Hospital on June 4.

After one of advocate Munghates 82-year-old client contracted coronavirus, he was deserted by his family. Advocate Munghate went out of his way to help his client receive appropriate treatment for COVID-19 at a Mumbai hospital. While his client successfully recovered, advocate Munghate got infected and had to be admitted at Seven Hills Hospital in Andheri on May 25. After fighting COVID-19 for 11 days, advocate Munghate succumbed to coronavirus on June 4. He was later cremated at Vile Parle Crematorium in Mumbai.

Advocate Munghate, a native of Nagpur’s Gopal Nagar, completed his schooling and LLB from Nagpur. He was initially inducted in judicial service as JMFC and went on to become a Metropolitan Magistrate at Mumbai. After voluntary retirement, advocate Munghate was a practising lawyer at Bombay High Court for about two decades. His area of expertise was in criminal, civil and service matters.

Advocate Munghate, popularly known as Shrikant, was well-known in the legal fraternity as a simple, soft spoken, jovial and kind-hearted person. He was known for helping people in need.
