It’s unfortunate that these days films are driven by MBAs: Varun Grover

Comedian, screenwriter and lyricist Varun Grover, who graduated from IIT, BHU in 2003, after briefly working as a software consultant in Pune, shifted to Mumbai in 2004 to become a writer. He started his journey in the industry as one of the six writers for the TV series ? The Great Indian Comedy Show. While gradually he started doing standup comedy and wrote for television shows, his ultimate dream was to write for a film. This dream was fulfilled in 2011, when Anurag Kashyap gave him a chance to write the lyrics for his movie ? That Girl In Yellow Boots. Varuns professional relationship with Anurag continued and he then wrote songs for the movie Gangs Of Wasseypur in 2012, which established him further in the film industry. In 2015, he wrote the beautiful song – Moh Moh Ke Dhaage ? for the movie Dum Laga Ke Haisha, which won him the National Award for the Best lyricist. In the same year, he was appreciated for writing the movie Masaan, which got rave reviews from the critics and won two awards at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival.
During his recent visit to Nagpur, Varun Grover in conversation with Ajey Gampawar spoke about his journey in the film industry, his love for writing, his relationship with Anurag Kashyap and the role of MBAs in the film industry.
