Transportation of vaccines likely to begin by today, 41 airports finalised for delivery

The Central government, on Thursday, prepared a detailed draft for air transportation of COVID-19 vaccines. A total of 41 destinations (airports) across India have been finalised for delivery of vaccines.

The movement of vaccines to different parts of the nation is likely to begin by Thursday or Friday.

The Central government has also allowed the passenger aircraft to transport the COVID-19 vaccines. 

For vaccine transportation across the country, a common draft has been made. It will shortly be shared with stakeholders. The transportation of vaccine is likely to begin by today or tomorrow, news agency ANI quoted government sources as saying.

The official twitter handle of Airports Authority of India (AAI) hinted that Pune might become the central hub from where the distribution of COVID-19 vaccine would take place. 

?Everyday, Pune airport operates 40 flights to 15 destinations across the country. The airport handles 150 tonne cargo daily. AAI and AAI Cargo Logistics and Allied Services (AAICLAS) are fully ready and capable of contributing airport resources for transportation of COVID-19 vaccine in the national interest, AAI tweeted. 

Out of the total 41 airports, Delhi and Karnal would be made mini-hubs for Northern India. For the Eastern region, Kolkata and Guwahati would be the mini-hub for distribution.

Guwahati would also be a nodal point for the Northeast. 

Chennai and Hyderabad would be the mini-hubs for Southern India, Aviation Ministry sources informed.

Active COVID cases near 30,000 mark in Nagpur

Nagpur’s COVID-19 tally, on Tuesday, January 25, reached 5,43,064 (till 5 pm) as 4028 (972 from rural and 2956 from city) new cases were recorded in a single day. 

Also, active COVID cases, as on Tuesday, could be seen inching closer to 30,000 mark in the district.

Six people lost their lives (one from rural and five from city) on Tuesday. Till now, 10,183 people have lost their lives due to COVID-19 in the district. Total tests taken were 11,377.
While patients who recovered on Tuesday were 2519, the total number of recovered patients stood at 503729.

Nagpur reports 90 COVID cases in past 24 hours

Nagpur’s COVID-19 tally on Sunday, January 2 reached 4,94,193 (till 5 pm) as 90 (73 city, nine rural) more people tested positive for the virus. 

Also, five patients recovered on Sunday taking the number of recoveries to 4,83,664. 

Till now, 10123 people have lost their lives due to COVID in the district. As of now, there are 406 active COVID patients in the district.
