The Serum Institute of India (SII), on Thursday, said that they would be providing Rs 25 lakh as financial aid to the families of employees, who lost their lives in a massive fire, which broke out at their Pune headquarters today.
The Serum Institute, which developed the COVID-19 vaccine Covishield, experienced a massive fire breakout on Thursday afternoon. More than 15 firefighter vans came to save the day and the labs, where COVID-19 vaccine was being made were safe.
SII chairman Adar Poonawalla took to social media and wrote, “We have just received some distressing updates; there has been a loss of life at the incident.”
“We are deeply saddened and offer our deepest condolences to the family members of the departed souls. We will be offering compensation of INR 25 lakhs to each families, in addition to the mandated amount as per the norms,” read SII’s social media post.
