In a move to contain the spread of the newly emerged ‘Omicron’ variant of the COVID-19, the Mumbai Police Commissionerate imposed Section 144 in Mumbai for two days- Saturday and Sunday.
During the two days, all public gatherings and processions would be prohibited along with any political rallies, the Commissionerate informed.
On December 10, seven fresh cases of the Omicron variant emerged in Maharashtra taking the states tally to 17.
As per the officials, the orders were issued to prevent danger to human life from the new Omicron variant of COVID-19 as well as a threat to the law and order situation against the backdrop of violence that took place in Amravati, Malegaon and Nanded over Tripura violence.
Violators would be punished under section 188 of the Indian Penal Code and other legal provisions, the ordered stated.
As per the Maharashtra Health Ministry, all of the citizens, who tested positive for the Omicron variant, had mild symptoms and no severe complications were reported.
