North Nagpur’s first COVID RT-PCR lab starts testing from July 25

North Nagpur’s first pathology lab for COVID-19 RT-PCR test will open its doors for citizens from July 25. The state-of-the-art lab – Advance Diagnostics Pathlab (ADPL) – is situated at Khamla Towers, besides Jaswant Inox, Kamptee Road, Indora Square, Nagpur.

The lab, which is a venture by Dr Major Shantanu Mukerji, will be inaugurated by Guardian Minister Dr Nitin Raut on July 25 at 12 pm. The guest of honour at the occasion will be Dr Shankar Khobragade (Senior consultant physician and diabetologist).

ADPL is a fully equipped and automated lab, which is accredited by NABL (National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories) and approved by ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research).

ADPL is a high quality molecular pathology lab that meets the expectations agreed with its users and conforms to the standards and regulations laid by ISO 15189:2012 and other relevant legislations of regulatory bodies.

ADPL follows the government prescribed rates and issues quality reports in the shortest possible time. Dr Mukerji’s lab aims at providing quality work environment that fosters unity, respect for diversity, teamwork while achieving excellence in pathology research and education.

Dr Mukerji, who is an ex-army war veteran and a practicing pathologist, owns seven pathology labs in Nagpur and Gondia districts. The lab at Indora in Nagpur is his eighth lab. Dr Mukerji is a 4th generation army officer who was actively involved in counter insurgency operations in the North East and later on in the Kargil war.

To stop the COVID pandemic, mass vaccination and early diagnosis remain the most powerful weapons. Over the world, the gold standard diagnostic method for detecting coronavirus is the RT-PCR technique from an oral and nasopharyngeal swab. Considering the need of an early diagnosis of COVID, Dr Mukerji decided to start the molecular lab.

Nagpur District Oral Health Officer Dr Danish Iqbal with Maharashtra Minister Amit Deshmukh

Dr Danish Iqbal, Nagpur District Oral Health officer received the ‘COVID Warrior’ award at the hands of Maharashtra Medical Education Minister Amit Deshmukh at a function held at Yashwantrao Chavan Centre in Mumbai on May 17. Also present during the felicitation were Health Minister Rajesh Tope and Dr Narendra Kale. The function was organized by Maharashtra State Dental Council.

During the pandemic, Dr Iqbal was initially appointed as nodal officer of Central India College of Pharmacy in Nagpur’s Lonara and then as the nodal officer of VNIT quarantine centre, which was one of the biggest quarantine centres of Vidarbha.

Dr Iqbal received the recognition for his excellent work done during the pandemic. He worked under the guidance of public health department at civil surgeon office in Nagpur and sub district hospital in Kamptee. Out of the 51,000 dental surgeons in the state, 160 were shortlisted for the recognition. Dr Danish Iqbal received the recognition along with three other doctors from Vidarbha.

The second ceremony of distribution of ‘Lokmat Times Excellence in Healthcare Awards 2021’ took place on Wednesday at Hotel Centre Point in Nagpur. The programme was presided by chief guests — former Union Minister and former Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad and former Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Devendra Fadnavis — and Chairman at Lokmat Media Group Vijay Darda to name a few.

Renowned physician and Intensivist from Mumbai, Dr Pratit Samdani was the keynote speaker who spoke on ‘Today’s Lifestyle and Health.’

The jury comprised chairman of the jury board and Senior Physician Dr SN Deshmukh, Secretary and Senior Radiologist Raju Khandelwal, eminent Ophthalmologist and MP Padma Shri Dr Vikas Mahatme, Deputy Director of Health, Nagpur Division Dr Sanjay Jaiswal, Senior ENT, Head & Neck Surgeon Dr Madan Kapare, Senior Physician Dr Jay Deshmukh, Senior Gastroenterologist Dr Srikant Mukewar, Senior Gynaecologist Dr Sadhana Deshmukh, Senior Psychiatrist Dr Sudhir Bhave, President of the Academy of Medical Sciences Ravindra Saranaik and world renowned Ayurveda doctor Sunil Joshi along with Lokmat Times Editor NK Nayak.

The Lokmat Times Excellence in Healthcare Award is given to doctors on the basis of their performance. Public opinion polls are also conducted through media and social media.

The Lifetime Achievement Award, Young Achievers Award, and three new awards have been launched this year. These include outstanding contribution towards public health, including the International Award, the Special Award for the Covid Warriors, and the Special Jury Award.

Thousands benefit from free health check-up drive by Kingsway Hospitals, Nation Next Foundation

More than 1,500 Nagpur citizens have benefitted till now from the free health check-up drive, which is being organized every morning at various parks of Nagpur, by Kingsway Hospitals and Nation Next Foundation.

Nation Next Foundation and Kingsway Hospitals have join hands to conduct free health check-up camps at different Nagpur parks. The campaign, which started from April 13, will go on till May 13, 2022. The camp is held from 5:30 am to 7:30 am. During the camp, citizens can get their blood pressure, SPO2 levels and random blood sugar checked for free.
