AIIMS Director Dr Randeep Guleria, while talking about the ongoing pandemic, said that the booster doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were not needed in India as of now. He said the same during a book launch event in Delhi.
He added that the possibility of a huge third wave was declining each passing day as there were no surges in the daily COVID-19 positive cases.
“There is no surge of COVID-19 cases as of now. So, there is no need for a booster dose in India for now,” Dr Randeep Guleria said.
Dr Guleria was speaking at the launch of Going Viral, a book on the making of Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin, by ICMR Director-General Dr Balram Bhargava.
The Director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi also hailed the ongoing COVID-19 vaccination drive in the country. As of today, India successfully administered over 117 crore jabs.
“It is unlikely that the third wave of COVID-19 of a magnitude comparable to the first and second will hit India,” he said.
Talking about the future possibilities regarding COVID-19, he said, The pandemic will take the form of an endemic. India will continue to see cases, but, the severity of the cases will be reduced.
