NMC declares 40 more hospitals as ‘Dedicated Covid Hospitals’ in Nagpur; see list

Earlier, 62 private hospitals in the city were declared as ‘Dedicated Covid Hospitals’ to ensure timely treatment of COVID-19 patients. The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has now added 40 more hospitals to the list. This means that COVID-19 patients in Nagpur would now be treated in a total of 102 private hospitals in the city. Of the 62, 40 hospitals are currently undergoing treatment and other hospitals will start treatment soon said Additional Commissioner Jalaj Sharma.

NMC in the interest of the patients took the decision, for which NMC Commissioner Radhakrishnan B issued an order. Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMC) and Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) initially treated COVID-19 patients. But given the growing situation of COVID-19 in the city, some private hospitals were then allowed to treat COVID-19 positive patients.

As several patients were still suffering due to lack of availability of beds in the city, Mayor Sandeep Joshi held a meeting with the office bearers of Indian Medical Association (IMA) and Vidarbha Hospital Association (VHA) on Tuesday. During the meeting, the mayor directed to start more private hospitals as ‘Dedicated Covid Hospitals’. Accordingly, the Municipal Commissioner on Wednesday issued orders regarding addition of 40 new hospitals.

The new 40 dedicated COVID-19 hospitals will start admitting COVID-19 positive patients in the next 48 hours starting from Thursday, September 17. The order issued by NMC chief also said that it would be mandatory for the hospital administration to regularly update the real time data of the patients on the portal of the NMC by admitting the affected patients coming for treatment in their respective hospitals and starting the treatment as per the guidelines of the government.
