Netflix brings back StreamFest, offers free streaming for 48 hours in India

World’s biggest streaming platform Netflix is back with round two of the StreamFest and is offering free streaming to viewers in India from 9 am on Wednesday (December 9) till 8:59 am on Friday (December 11). Earlier, Netflix ran its free promotion in India from December 5 to December 6.

As part of the promotion, viewers in India can watch anything they want to on the platform for free for the 48-hour period. However, the free streaming is subject to a few caveats. One of the conditions include that Netflix StreamFest is limited to a single standard-definition (SD) stream and the platform also limits the number of free viewers.

Italys anti-trust authority AGCM I(AutoritGarante della Concorrenza e del Mercato), has levied a fine of 10 million euros (roughly Rs 90 crores) on Apple for misleading?? claims on the water resistance capacity of iPhones.

AGCM claimed that, Apple did not make it clear that this feature exists under certain specific conditions, for example during specific laboratory tests with static and pure water and not under normal conditions of usage by the customers.

The authority based their claims relating to series of Apple phones including iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone 11, iPhone 11proand iPhone 11 pro Max models.

According to the claims set by the US tech giant, different iPhone models are water resistant up to 30 minutes at a depth of up to four meters (depending on the model).

AGCM in their statement, while calling Apples claims as an aggressive commercial practice, also accused Apple for tricking their customers for a disclaimer that the warranty for the smartphones did not cover damage caused by liquids, saying it misled consumers.

For these reasons, the authority has decided to impose penalties totalling EUR 10 million (roughly Rs. 90 crores) on Apple Distribution International and on Apple Italia, AGCM said in a statement.

Apple has so far not commented on the accusations and fine.
