Nagpur: Nitin Gadkari asks authorities to increase 1,200 COVID-19 beds

Nitin Gadkari
Amid the shortage of beds in Nagpur to treat COVID-19 patients, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Friday asked the district administration and Nagpur Municipal Corporation to increase 1,200 beds in the city for COVID-19 patients. Gadkaris decision came after a meeting with NMC commissioner Radhakrishnan B, Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari, MLC Pravin Datke, AIIMS Deputy Superintendent Dr Manish Shrigiriwar, and Chandu Pendke from NGO Maitri Pariwar.
Gadkari proposed that 100 beds each at GMCH and IGGMCH, 500 beds at AIIMS, and 300 beds at NMC’s hospitals across the city, can be increased to start treating COVID-19 patients. Gadkari also asked NMC to provide material to AIIMS to start 500 beds with oxygen and ventilators.
Stressing on the fact that patients in the city were dying because of lack of oxygen cylinders and ventilators, Gadkari assured that the city will be soon getting 5,000 oxygen cylinders and 2,000 ventilators.
