Nagpur Mayor Sandip Joshi on Friday reviewed the state of Ambazari Lake area from Swami Vivekananda Memorial and asked Metro Rail Corporation to remove the debris it has laid near the lake during the construction work. Joshi said that while Ambazari Lake and the memorial add beauty to the city, the debris render ugliness to the site.
Joshi observed that the small dam near the memorial is in a bad condition and that care must be taken to ensure that no untoward incident happens. Expressing disappointment over debris left behind by Metro during construction, Joshi directed to remove the debris immediately. He directed the officials of the Irrigation Department to repair the dam considering the condition of the dam. The mayor also asked to hold a joint meeting of Metro, Irrigation Department and NMC next week on the important issue.
Shweta Banerjee, Superintendent Engineer, informed the mayor that the Irrigation Department has been informed about the repair of the dam and that NMC has received Rs 1 crore from Metro for the repairs. Banerjee also informed that the amount was diverted to the Irrigation Department.
While instructing the Metro to immediately remove the debris dumped near the lake, the Irrigation Department directed to take immediate action to keep the Ambazari Lake in good condition. Joshi also said that there should be no complaints because of that the Metro work henceforth.
