Nagpur Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari, on Wednesday, paid a surprise visit to Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s (NMC) Zingabai Takli Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) after he was informed that the centre had stopped functioning since past two days due to lack of gloves and had stopped contact tracing of patients as well.
Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari was accompanied by Shiv Sena leader Sandeep Jadhav during the inspection.
While inquiring UPHC Laboratory Technician Vaishali Kaswati and JNM Vidya Enchelwar, they said that the RTPCR testing had stopped due to lack of hand gloves.
When dialled medical officer Dr Sanjay Chilkar for the same, he said that the technicians should have used PPE kits to collect samples.
According to Dr Chilkar, the UPHC collects 10 to 15 swab samples in a day, “The staff should use PPE kits that are provided in sufficient numbers,” he said.
Dr Chilkar further added that there was no written communication from the centre regarding the hand gloves being damaged there.
The Mayor expressed his displeasure on the staff’s excuse and directed Dr Chilkar to issue show-cause notice to the staff for stopping swab collections and misleading the Mayor. He also directed the UPHC staff to resume contact tracing in full strength.
