Nagpur: DCP Lohit Matani leads combing operation, acts tough on antisocial elements during foot patrolling

Nagpur Zone III DCP Lohit Matani has intensified the crackdown against antisocial elements through a combing operation. As part of the operation, DCP Matani is leading teams from all police stations in zone III and is patrolling different areas on foot with an intention to stop illegal activities and bring the antisocial elements to justice.

On May 29 and May 30, DCP Matani and his team searched 120 houses of history sheeters and booked them under relevant sections of the different acts. Also, keeping in mind the COVID-19 norms, the teams dispersed people sitting or roaming ideally from grounds, squares and open areas.

During the operation and foot patrolling, 11 people were booked under Maharashtra Prohibition Act 1949, five people were booked under Arms Act and two people were booked for gambling. Also, six people were booked under sections 110 and 117 of the Bombay Police Act and two were booked under section 188 of the IPC.

Speaking to Nation Next, DCP Lohit Matani said: “Due to the COVID pandemic and lockdown, there is lot of frustration and unemployment, which in turn can lead to increase in crime. It’s really important to maintain discipline keeping in mind the present situation. We have identified certain areas, where we feel, there can be disturbance between 7 pm to 10 pm on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Presence of police to enforce discipline is really necessary in such areas. According we are carrying out the combing operation and foot patrolling.”

Nagpur records “zero murders” in a month for 1st time

Nagpur city, which is often called the “crime capital” recorded zero murders in the month of February. This is the first time the city has recorded no murders in a month. Nagpur Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar informed about the same through a tweet.

The tweet read: Zero is supposed to be nothing, but works wonders if it is on the right side. The commissioner informed that Nagpur Police, with help of a host of crime prevention measures, is trying to wipe out the image of Nagpur being a ?crime capital.

Nagpur CP Amitesh Kumar felicitates cops from Zone III police stations for good work done in 2021

To mark the 75 years of India’s Independence as part of Amrut Mahotsav and the foundation day of Maharashtra Police, Nagpur Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar on January 2 felicitated personnel from Zone III police stations for the good work done in 2021 at a function held at Kotwali Police Station. Apart from CP Amitesh Kumar, the function was attended by Joint CP Ashwini Dorje, Additonal CP Naveen Chandra Reddy (North), DCP (Traffic) Sarang Awad and Zone III DCP Gajanan Rajmane.

During the function, CP Amitesh Kumar not only felicitated cops but also sanitation workers who keep the police station premises clean in Zone III. Sanitation workers who were felicatated included: Gitabai Bagde, Seema Dolas, Dipawali bai, Sanjay Meshram, Ashok Bansod, Kachru Meshram, Rajesh Suryawanshi, Raju Bhajanlal, Laxman Sontakke, Sanjay Mahanto, Raju Nadhoriya and Yash Satpute.

As many as 75 cops from all police stations of Zone III were rewarded for their exemplary work in different departments of the police machinery. The function was hosted by Police Inspector (Crime) PT Akurke and votes of thanks was given by Senior Police Inspector Mukund Thakre.

Nagpur Zone I DCP Lohit Matani along with his wife Manjeet Kaur Matani distributed blankets to the homeless on January 1 evening to mark the beginning of the new year. DCP Matani and his wife distributed the blankets to the needy outside Sai Baba temple on Wardha Road, Telankhedi temple near Futala and other places.

Speaking to Nation Next, DCP Matani said, “On new year’s eve, I and my team were on the road making sure that no crime takes place and people follow COVID protocols. Since there’s a sudden drop in temperature in the city, on January 1, I thought of meeting these people who are sleeping without blankets on roads in such cold.”

DCP Matani added, “I urge the citizens to come forward and help the needy and homeless. While we sleep in our homes safe and secure, there are some people who even lack basic amenities; they don’t even have blankets to protect them from the cold. We should all help such people.”
