Mumbai’s Lalbaugcha Raja Mandal to celebrate Ganeshotsav abiding COVID-19 norms

Lalbaugcha Raja Ganesh Mandal, of Mumbai, would celebrate the Hindu festival- Ganeshotsav in a traditional way following all COVID-19 related norms. Last year, amid the global COVID-19 pandemic, the Mandal had cancelled all festivities and kept a blood/plasma donation camp instead.
Ganeshotsav is a 10-day-festival, in which, devotees worship Lord Ganesha for well-being and prosperity. This festival is celebrated with great pomp and show all over India. But, Maharashtra experiences an altogether different flora-fauna.

Blood donation camp organized last year
The Lalbaugcha Raja Ganpati, is India’s one of the oldest and most famous pandals. Established 89-years-ago, it is also known as Navsacha Ganpati? (one who fulfils wishes). According to reports, more than 1.5 million people visit the pandal daily. More than 300 hundred workers organise this event and the idol is kept on display for 11 days.
On the 12th day, it is immersed in the Arabian sea, led by a magnificent procession.
This year, Ganeshotsav will start on September 10. Amid speculations of COVIDs third wave, the Maharashtra government had restricted the height of idols to four feet in public celebrations and two feet in homes.
The state government also issued guidelines to avoid overcrowding of people in public places. Mandals have been asked to seek permission from local body governments before setting up pandals.
The Central government had banned the selling, buying, production and distribution of Ganesh idols made from Plaster of Paris (POP). Strict actions would be taken against violators and a heavy fine would be imposed.

An elderly couple was mauled by a tiger in Chor Bawali on January 25 while on their way from Narsinghpur (Madhya Pradesh) to Nagpur on January 25. The couple was accompanied by their 25-year-old son in a car. Following the tiger attack, the couple was admitted to Kingsway Hospital in Nagpur.
While on their way to Nagpur, the family of three stopped near Chor Bawali for passing urine. When the 58-year-old woman got out of the car, the tiger, which was probably wounded by a previous vehicular assault, caught hold of the woman’s hand and bit her thumb. When the woman’s husband stepped out of the car to help his wife, the tiger attacked him as well and injured his right leg. A terrfied son started throwing stones at the tiger, who eventually ran away.
The couple was given first aid by the bystanders before being driven to Nagpur by the son to Kingsway hospital. Speaking to Nation Next, treating surgeon Dr Prakash Jain informed that the family was terrified when it arrived at the hospital. Dr Jain said: “The couple is now stable. Tiger mauling is always serious. The couple was lucky to have sustained minor injuries in the incident.”
