Oscar winning movie ‘Joker’ banned on Indian TV as it ‘glorifies violence’
Still from Joker movie
Joaquin Phoenixs Oscar winning Hollywood movie ‘Joker’ is back in controversy as Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in India decided to ban its screening on Indian television due to the ‘degree of violence shown’ in the film.
The two-page order, released by Film Certificate Appellate Tribunal (FCAT), also upheld the decision by CBFC to ban the film from broadcasting on any Indian channel due to the degree of violence shown.
Joker was considered to be one of the best movies ever made and Joaquins iconic character would be remembered for years to come.
The dramatic villain from Joker ruled the hearts of millions worldwide. The screenplay of the movie was talk of the town since its release. Moreover, Joker ended the Academy Awards in February 2020 by winning two Oscars.
Joaquins stunning performance in the movie wasn’t the only thing that caught the attention of the world; there was quite a controversy about the movie as some thought it glorified violence.
The film glorifies violence; if seen by non-adults it would create lasting effects on their minds, said CBFC. The moment this news broke out, people in India took to twitter and slammed CBFC for taking this decision.
I think CBFC isn’t paying attention towards the ‘violent’ movies which are made in Bollywood tweeted one of the users, while expressing his thoughts on this issue.
Though Joker has been banned from TV India, it is still available on OTT platforms in the country such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hotstar and other.
Another user tweeted, CBFC should also keep an eye on the content of OTT platform; many movies there also glorify violence.
#jokerbanned was trending on twitter as people across the country showed their support for the movie.
