A 35-year-old woman, who was locked inside a toilet for 1.5 years by her husband, was rescued in Rishpur village of Panipat district in Haryana.
In a heartbreaking incident, a 35-year-old woman, who was locked inside a toilet for 1.5 years and forced to live in inhuman conditions by her husband Naresh Kumar at their house, was rescued in Rishpur village of Panipat district in Haryana on Wednesday.
After receiving information about the victim being held captive by her husband, she was rescued by District Women and Child Welfare Department team led by women protection officer Rajni Gupta. The couple has been married for 17 years and have 16-year-old son and two daughters aged 15 and 11.
As per reports, the woman was rescued from a small, stinking toilet and was immediately taken to civil hospital for her medical checkup. Later, she was handed over to her cousin.
Gupta said that during the search, the victim was found lying in the toilet in an absolutely miserable condition. Gupta told Hindustan Times: “She was so weak that she could not even walk; she ate 8 chapattis, when we gave her food.”
Kumar, however, has claimed that his wife is mentally unstable. He said: “We ask her to sit outside but she does not sit there. We took her to doctors but there was no improvement in her condition.”
Rubbishing Kumar’s statement, Gupta said, “It is being said that she is mentally unstable, but it is not true. We have talked to her and it is clear that she completely alright. We rescued her and washed her hair. We have filed a police complaint. Police will now take action against Kumar accordingly.”
A case has been registered against Naresh Kumar under IPC sections 498 A and 342. Kumar has been taken into custody and further investigation is underway.
