Starting from May 6, Nagpur sports lovers will be in for a treat as the city is going to witness India’s first multisport festival – Khasdar Krida Mahotsav. The festival, which is a brain child of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, will be inaugurated on May 6 at Yeshwant Stadium. The unique festival is going to be promoted as ? Chak De, Khelo Nagpur Khelo.
Logo and song unveiled
The organizers of the festival are leaving no stone unturned to create a buzz about it and make it really special for sportspersons and the citizens. The official logo and the song unveiling of the festival, which took place recently at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Auditorium, Deekshabhoomi, Nagpur, was a step in the same direction.
Present during the unveiling were politicians like Nagpur Mayor Nanda Jichkar, Ex Rajya Sabha MP Ajay Sancheti, MLAs Sudhakar Kohale and Vikas Kumbhare, and ruling party leader Sandeep Joshi. But the cynosure of all eyes seemed to be the sporting personalities present, who were invited as the special guests. These sporting personalities included Bhau Kane (Recipient, Dadoji Konddev Award), Mona Meshram (International Cricketer), Malvika Bansod (India No.2 Shuttler), Kanchanmala Pande (Para international swimmer) and Monica Raut (long distance runner).
A logo competition was organized for the festival and the winners were awarded with monetary prizes. Manish Parsodkar (Winner), Ghanshyam Dongarwar (1st runner-up) and Devendra Dayare (2nd runner-up) were awarded with prizes worth Rs 11,000, Rs 5,000 and Rs 3,000 respectively.
The first edition of Khasdar Krida Utsav will consist of 20 games being played by 540 teams and will see a participation from around 25,000 sports persons. The games, which will be played during the festival include: Table Tennis, Football, Kho-Kho, Wrestling, Cycling, Body Building, Walkathon, Basketball, Carrom, Skating, Athletics, Swimming, Volleyball, Badminton, Hockey, Chess, Kabaddi, Lawn Tennis and Tennis ball cricket for men and women. A collective prize money of Rs 62, 82,200 along with 288 trophies and 2,285 medals will be distributed among the winners and runners-up. The 20-day festival will take place across the city at different venues.
