National Spokesperson of Indian National Congress (INC) Manish Tiwari, on Wednesday, said that emergency use authorization to COVID-19 vaccine Covaxin? raised various concerns on it’s efficacy as phase III trials of the vaccine had not been completed.

He said that Covaxins roll out could not be used as phase III trials, adding that Indians were not ?guinea pigs.

Covaxin was licensed by the government for emergency use. Now government is saying that the recipient won’t be able to pick and choose the vaccine, which hes administered. When phase three trials of Covaxin is not complete, it raises various concerns on its efficacy, Tiwari was quoted as saying by ANI.

Either government shouldn’t roll out Covaxin till its efficacy and reliability is completely established and phase 3 trials are over. It should act in a manner whereby there’s complete confidence in people.

You cant use rollout as phase three trial, Indians are not guinea pigs, he added.

Meanwhile, Chairman of Bharat Biotech Dr Krishna Ella defended Covaxin, saying he wouldn’t mind administering the vaccine to his six-year-old grandson.

Out inactivated vaccine (Covaxin) will be ideal to give to children aged between 2 and 12. We want to put up a proposal to DCGI and subject expert committees. Probably in another 10 days, we will be able to hold small clinical trials because this vaccine can go to children without any issues, Dr Ella told India Today TV.
