Two alumni from IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) Kharagpur and AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) ? Debayan Saha and Shashi Ranjan ? recently innovated a Robo Sapien (human-like) machine, which would sterilize mass gatherings. The machine can be used in hospitals and public spaces to kill the effects of Coronavirus with the use of water and electricity only. The two have created the machine to sanitise public places on a wider level as compared to disinfectant sprays. The device that operates on the mechanism of charged water droplets get ionised using the corona discharge.

The duo started working on the machine from March and has named it Airlens Minus Corona. The ionised water coming out of the machine, after coming in contact with the virus, oxidises its viral protein and makes it non-harmful molecule.

As per reports, the duo said, Our technology uses an optimal combination of electric energy and water atomisation techniques to induce a charge on water droplets while creating the most potent oxidative entities, hydroxyl radicals that can oxidise and kill the coronavirus.

Explaining the need to create such a device, Debayan said that the use of alcohol in sanitisers to break the protein coat is effective for individuals, but to combat the virus on larger scale and sanitise a crowded place the sanitisers can’t be so effective; they?ll certainly have limitations. While the West Bengal government has shown interest in installing the device, the two are planning to have a talk with Delhi government as well.
