Even as cricketer MS Dhoni is keeping mum about rumours about his retirement, as per a report published in TOI, Dhoni may be axed from the team and will not be picked if he doesn’t take the decision to retire. As per the report, if Dhoni hasn’t taken a decision on his retirement, then prime selector MSK Prasad will have a few words with Dhoni and explain to him that his playing days are over.

TOI quoted a reliable source from BCCI as saying, We are surprised that hes not done it so far. There are youngsters like Rishabh Pant waiting to grab their chances. As we saw in the World Cup, Dhoni isn’t the same batsman anymore. Despite coming in at No. 6 or 7, he was struggling to force the pace, and it was hurting the team.

Commenting on Dhonis selection in the team for the upcoming tour of West Indies, the source said, I don’t think hes in the selectors plan for the 2020 T20 World Cup too. He must quit international cricket gracefully. He isn’t an automatic pick any more.

Interestingly, Dhoni did not communicate with selectors about the decision on his retirement after the World Cup. We didn’t want to distract him, and he too must have wanted the team, and himself, to be focused on the Cup. But the time to take a call is now. He has nothing left to achieve or prove in international cricket anymore, stated the source, who is a prominent former Indian cricketer.

The source added, I’m certain that Dhoni is not going to be picked for India again. It’s high time he calls it a day. The source also revealed that Virat Kohlis captainly could be reviewed as well. The source said, This campaign wasn’t successful by any standards. Accountability has to start from the top.

MS Dhoni, in an international cricket career spanning more than 15 years, has scored 10,773 runs in 350 ODIs, 4,876 runs in 90 test matches and 1,617 runs in 98 T20 matches. He was the captain of the Indian Cricket Team, which won the World Cup in 2011.
