The Heritage Conservation Committee has given a nod to a revised plan for the beautification of Kasturchand Park in Nagpur. Maps have been submitted to the Town Planning Department for further action. The approval was given on Friday at a meeting of the Heritage Conservation Committee of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC).

The meeting took place under the chairmanship of Dr Tapan Chakrabarti (Former director, NEERI). Also, present at meeting were renowned architect Ashok Mokha, Dr Shobha Johari from the history department, Structural Engineer PS Patankar, Dr Ujjwala Chakradev (Principal, LAD College), Supriya Thool (Assistant Director, Town Planning, NMC) Town Planner Pravin Sonare, Rajiv Yelwatkar (Additional General Manager, Nagpur Metro) and Assistant Public Relation Officer Pradeep Khardanwis.

At the meeting, NMC submitted a proposal to carry out activities like jogging, walking, preparing cycle tracks, do tree plantations, etc. at Kasturchand Park. Ther committee in the last meeting, had received two different proposals and therefore had told to come up with a revised plan for the meeting on Friday. The committee has now approved the revised plan and sent it to the town planning department of NMC for further action.

Also, at the meeting, Nagpur Metro Rail Corporation submitted a proposal to construct a Heritage Walk in the Zero Mile premises. The committee approved the plan and also directed Nagpur Metro Rail Corporation to repair and maintain Zero Mile henceforth.

The committee also took a decision with regards to the construction of Centre Point School at Seminary Hills, Nagpur. Vivek Singh, a resident, has complained to the committee, that the tree plantations and environment in the area has been affected due to the construction. In this regard, Dr Chakrabarti appointed a sub-committee under the chairmanship of Dr Chakradev. Mokha and Patankar will also be a part of this committee. Dr Chakrabarti said that this committee will examine and take a decision.

At the meeting, Niraj Gadge, the owner of Amar Circus, also presented a proposal for the 34-day circus at Kasturchand Park. Keeping in mind the directions from the High Court with regards to use of Kasturchand Park, the proposal was rejected by the Heritage Conservation Committee.
