Haryanas first woman Member of Parliament and former lieutenant governor of Puducherry Chandrawati Devi passed away on Sunday, November 15 due to COVID-19 at the age of 92.
Born on 8th January 1928, Chandrawati Devi created history in Indian politics when she became the first woman MP of Haryana from Bhiwani constituency in 1977 (post emergency Lok Sabha elections).

She won her seat to the sixth Lok Sabha as a Janta Party candidate after defeating Defense Minister Bansi Lal.
The former President of Janta Party was admitted to Rohtaks PGIMS on 5th November where she was undergoing treatment for COVID-19.

She was experiencing difficulty in breathing, her health was worsening day by day, said Chandrawatis aide. The aide continued to say that she was not responding to the treatment due to her old age and was on life saving support.
Chandrawati was a torchbearer of women empowerment; she was a lawmaker who worked for the betterment of the society.

Women empowerment and care of farmers were the epicentre of her policies. The senior Congress leader inspired many to serve the people. Her father who served in the army inspired her to get into national service.
Leaders and politicians across party lines in the country paid homage to the leader of the masses. She served the nation as MLA, MP and then Lt. Governor; her life was a legacy of respect, service and integrity?

Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Hooda tweeted. Deeply saddened to hear the news of her demise; she will be forever remembered, said Randeep Singh (General Secretary and Chief Spokesperson of Congress party).
She had also served as the first woman MLA from Haryana Vidhan Sabha. later on she joined Congress and served as Lt. Governor of Puducherry (1990).

Active COVID cases near 30,000 mark in Nagpur

Nagpur’s COVID-19 tally, on Tuesday, January 25, reached 5,43,064 (till 5 pm) as 4028 (972 from rural and 2956 from city) new cases were recorded in a single day. 

Also, active COVID cases, as on Tuesday, could be seen inching closer to 30,000 mark in the district.

Six people lost their lives (one from rural and five from city) on Tuesday. Till now, 10,183 people have lost their lives due to COVID-19 in the district. Total tests taken were 11,377.
While patients who recovered on Tuesday were 2519, the total number of recovered patients stood at 503729.

Nagpur reports 90 COVID cases in past 24 hours

Nagpur’s COVID-19 tally on Sunday, January 2 reached 4,94,193 (till 5 pm) as 90 (73 city, nine rural) more people tested positive for the virus. 

Also, five patients recovered on Sunday taking the number of recoveries to 4,83,664. 

Till now, 10123 people have lost their lives due to COVID in the district. As of now, there are 406 active COVID patients in the district.

Nagpur registered 88 (81 from city) new COVID-19 positive cases on Friday, December 31. Nagpur previously had recorded as minimum as six cases on December 24.
