PM Narendra Modi has said that the government will soon be taking a decision on revising the minimum age of marriage for girls.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that the government will soon be taking a decision on revising the minimum age of marriage for girls after a committee set up for the same submits its report. Currently, the minimum age of marriage in India for women is 18 years and for men is 21 years.
PM Modi made the announcement while addressing a video conference after releasing commemorative coin of Rs 75 on the 75th anniversary of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO). PM Modi said: “There is an important deliberation going on to decide what should be the ideal age of marriage for daughters.”
The Prime Minister informed that women across the country have been writing letters to him asking about the report of the committee and when the government will take a decision. PM Modi added, “I want to assure them, the government will soon take its decision after the submission of the report.”
