Cricketers cry foul over “most boundaries” rule which led to England World Cup win

Quite a few prominent cricketers have expressed disappointed over the most boundaries rule, which led to Englands first ever Cricket World Cup title.

For the uninitiated, in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 finals held at Lords Cricket Ground in London on July 14, New Zealand had scored 241 runs batting first. Chasing the target, England scored 241 and tied the match. The match then went into a Super Over.

Both teams scored 15 runs each in the super over thereby leading to a tie once again. However, England was announced as the winner of the World Cup as per the Super Over? rule. The rule states that in case a super over fails to break the tie in the final, the team that hot more boundaries (fours and sixes combined) wins the trophy.

Some cricketers expressed their views on Twitter about the rule calling it ridiculous and cruel.

The DL system is actually based on runs and wickets lost… yet the Final result is only based on Boundaries hit? Not fair in my opinion. Must have been great to watch!

Difficult to digest this more boundary rule. Something like sudden death- continuous super overs till a result is a better solution. Understand, wanting a definite winner but sharing a trophy is better than deciding on more boundaries. Very tough on New Zealand. #EngVsNZ

Active COVID cases near 30,000 mark in Nagpur

Nagpur’s COVID-19 tally, on Tuesday, January 25, reached 5,43,064 (till 5 pm) as 4028 (972 from rural and 2956 from city) new cases were recorded in a single day.

Also, active COVID cases, as on Tuesday, could be seen inching closer to 30,000 mark in the district.

Six people lost their lives (one from rural and five from city) on Tuesday. Till now, 10,183 people have lost their lives due to COVID-19 in the district. Total tests taken were 11,377.

While patients who recovered on Tuesday were 2519, the total number of recovered patients stood at 503729.

Nagpur reports 90 COVID cases in past 24 hours

Nagpur’s COVID-19 tally on Sunday, January 2 reached 4,94,193 (till 5 pm) as 90 (73 city, nine rural) more people tested positive for the virus.

Also, five patients recovered on Sunday taking the number of recoveries to 4,83,664.

Till now, 10123 people have lost their lives due to COVID in the district. As of now, there are 406 active COVID patients in the district.
