COVID-19 victim’s nephews die during cremation, relatives blame PPE kits for causing dehydration

In a tragic incident, two nephews of a 65-year-old coronavirus patient fell unconscious and died due to dehydration during the victim’s cremation at Tawi River in the Sidhra area of Jammu district on June 18. Relatives of the nephews have claimed that the two men died as a result of dehydration because of the PPE kits they were wearing.

A senior doctor at Government Medical College and Hospital said that three relatives of the deceased had fallen unconscious during the cremation. Two of them were brought dead to the hospital. Both the men tested negative for COVID-19 after their death.
While doctors are yet to find the exact cause of death, relatives of the two men have claimed that the delay in funeral caused dehydration since the two men were wearing PPE kits in the extreme heat. The two men, Vimal Zadoo (38) and Vipin Zadoo (35) had collapsed near the river before the cremation took place.
The 32-year-old son of the deceased coronavirus patient has claimed that the deaths of his cousins were administrative murders. He told a daily: Since it was not possible for me to cremate my father alone, three of my cousins had accompanied me. Wearing PPE kits in the scorching heat, we were made to travel in an ambulance for around two-and-a-half hours before we reached the cremation site. Additional District Commissioner (ADC) Ghanshyam Singh was giving us the directions to the site over the phone as the driver had no idea of the location.
It was around 42 degree celsius on June 18. We were given no water even as we were gasping for breath. The ambulance also got stuck in the riverbed. I was the first one to faint. Another cousin of mine, Amit Chopra, tore our PPE kits and shifter me in his car. My two other cousins also fainted. Amit kept pleading for water and assistance but he was abused by the policemen. Now, the same ADC has been appointed to conduct magisterial probe. he added.
The ADC has been asked to submit his report by June 22, to the board of doctors formed to look into the deaths.

An elderly couple was mauled by a tiger in Chor Bawali on January 25 while on their way from Narsinghpur (Madhya Pradesh) to Nagpur on January 25. The couple was accompanied by their 25-year-old son in a car. Following the tiger attack, the couple was admitted to Kingsway Hospital in Nagpur.

While on their way to Nagpur, the family of three stopped near Chor Bawali for passing urine. When the 58-year-old woman got out of the car, the tiger, which was probably wounded by a previous vehicular assault, caught hold of the woman’s hand and bit her thumb. When the woman’s husband stepped out of the car to help his wife, the tiger attacked him as well and injured his right leg. A terrfied son started throwing stones at the tiger, who eventually ran away.

The couple was given first aid by the bystanders before being driven to Nagpur by the son to Kingsway hospital. Speaking to Nation Next, treating surgeon Dr Prakash Jain informed that the family was terrified when it arrived at the hospital. Dr Jain said: “The couple is now stable. Tiger mauling is always serious. The couple was lucky to have sustained minor injuries in the incident.”
