CBI catches Nagpur official red-handed while accepting bribe; recovers Rs 52 lakh in raid

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Nagpur, on Wednesday, arrested an Assistant Labour Commissioner Sachin J Shelar from Nagpur while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 60,000 from the complainant.
A case was registered against the Assistant Labour Commissioner, working in the office of Labour Commissioner, Nagpur, after a complaint was filed against him.
It was alleged that the Regional Labour Commissioner and Assistant Labour Commissioner had inspected the complainants firm and had directed him to submit certain documents at the office of the Labour Commissioner.
The complainant had visited the office of the Labour Commissioner to submit the documents. It was further alleged that instead of receiving the documents, the complainant was asked to meet the accused at his residence.
The accused allegedly demanded the above-mentioned bribe to settle the matter regarding irregularities related to safety site labour and also asked for additional bribe to issue a labour license.
CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 60,000 from the complainant.
Searches were also conducted at the official and the residential premises of the accused, which led to recovery of cash of Rs 52.09 lakh (approx.) and documents related to various investments.
The accused was produced today before the Special Judge for CBI cases in Nagpur and was remanded to police custody up to January 2, 2021.

Miscreants vandalise property at Nagpur’s Bishop Cotton School, throw liquor bottles in classrooms
Some unknown miscreants in Nagpur vandalised Bishop Cotton School situated on VIP in Dharampeth during the weekend. Apart from the broken plant pots and damaged earthing wires, empty alcohol bottles could also be seen thrown on the floor of the classrooms.
Prima facie it seems some drunkards might have used the school as their hang out place to consume alcohol as it was a weekend and the school was closed. However, nothing could be ascertained as of now; the investigation on the same is on.

ED arrests Nagpur advocate Satish Ukey who filed petition against Fadnavis

Enforcement Directorate (ED) took the custody of RTI activist advocate Satish Ukey and his brother Pradeep Ukey after raiding the former’s residence at Parvati Nagar in Nagpur on Thursday morning at 7 am. Satish, who is also the lawyer of MPCC President Nana Patole, had filed an election petition against former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Devendra Fadnavis.
Ukey had alleged that Fadnavis hadn’t disclosed pending criminal cases against him while filing his nomination papers for the 2009 and 2014 Assembly elections, and thus violated the Representation of People’s Act, 1951. For the past few years, Ukey had also been filing petitions in court against several BJP leaders.
During the raid, an army of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel was also deployed under his house. The crime branch had issued a notice to Ukey regarding a land transaction in Nagpur.
