92% COVID-19 patients in India are asymptomatic, Union Health Minister tells Lok Sabha

Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan Goel on the first day of the monsoon Parliament session on Monday said that 92% COVID-19 positive patients in the country were asymptomatic.
He said while 5.8% patients required oxygen therapy, 1.7% needed intensive care.
The minister told the House that parameters including mode of transmission, subclinical infection, period of virus shedding, role of immunity etc. are still being researched.
He added, Once a person is exposed to the infection, the virus may develop anytime between one to 14 days. Speaking further, he said that primary symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough, and difficulty in breathing.
As on Monday, the total number of COVID-19 cases in India stood at 48,46,427 with 79,722 deaths. In past 24-hours, 92,071 new cases were reported.
Nagpur’s COVID-19 tally, on Tuesday, January 25, reached 5,43,064 (till 5 pm) as 4028 (972 from rural and 2956 from city) new cases were recorded in a single day.
Also, active COVID cases, as on Tuesday, could be seen inching closer to 30,000 mark in the district.
Nagpur’s COVID-19 tally on Sunday, January 2 reached 4,94,193 (till 5 pm) as 90 (73 city, nine rural) more people tested positive for the virus.
Nagpur registered 88 (81 from city) new COVID-19 positive cases on Friday, December 31. Nagpur previously had recorded as minimum as six cases on December 24.
