90kg vault having valuables worth ₹36 lakh stolen from Nagpur Corporator Sandeep Gavai’s house
A Hollywood-inspired robbery took place at Nagpur Corporator Sandeep Gavai’s house.
The robbers stole an entire 90kg vault from a cupboard, which contained cash and 400gm gold ornaments worth around ₹36 lakh from Gavai’s Seminary Hills bungalow.
Gavai, who also heads the Water Supply Committee of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), had gone to Mumbai on October 17 for some work.
A worker, a few servants and a woman relative of Gavai stayed at his house as the construction work of his swimming pool was underway.
Gavai along with his family members returned to Nagpur on Saturday, October 23.
On Sunday morning, when he opened his cupboard, he was astonished to see the vault missing.
Nagpur Zone II DCP IPS Vinita S quickly rushed to the scene and began her investigation. Speaking about the robbery, she told Nation Next, As of now we are carrying out a brief technical investigation from our sources. We are also taking note of history-sheeters to see if we can find any link.
We have made four teams to lead this investigation. According to the complainant, cash and jewellery worth around ₹36 lakh was stolen from the house. We have procured the CCTV footage of past four to five days, which we will check minutely to see if we can find any link, she added.
When asked about suspected involvement of any member of the family or outsider, she said, We can’t comment on this particular issue as of now. It would be too early to conclude. Our investigation is underway; we would be able to tell more then.
According to the DCP, it is not clear whether the robbery happened in broad daylight or at night. Further investigation in this case is in progress.

ED arrests Nagpur advocate Satish Ukey who filed petition against Fadnavis
Satish Ukey
Enforcement Directorate (ED) took the custody of RTI activist advocate Satish Ukey and his brother Pradeep Ukey after raiding the former’s residence at Parvati Nagar in Nagpur on Thursday morning at 7 am. Satish, who is also the lawyer of MPCC President Nana Patole, had filed an election petition against former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Devendra Fadnavis.
Ukey had alleged that Fadnavis hadn’t disclosed pending criminal cases against him while filing his nomination papers for the 2009 and 2014 Assembly elections, and thus violated the Representation of People’s Act, 1951. For the past few years, Ukey had also been filing petitions in court against several BJP leaders.
During the raid, an army of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel was also deployed under his house. The crime branch had issued a notice to Ukey regarding a land transaction in Nagpur.
