3rd wave of COVID to peak in October, warns MHA

As daily positive cases of COVID-19 in India finally came under control after the second wave, a special committee set up by the Union Home Ministry (HM) raised concerns about the state of pandemic in India.
The National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), in a report submitted to the Prime Minister’s Office, mentioned that the peak of COVID-19 third wave would come in the month of October.
According to sources, NIDM spoke about the critical need for paediatric facilities, including doctors, staff, and equipment like ventilators and ambulances, if a large number of children got infected by the virus.
Earlier in June, experts had predicted that the third wave of COVID-19 would be worse than second wave and more vulnerable to the kids.
Meanwhile, Directors of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) across the country asked people to continue following Covid appropriate behaviour to avoid any possible spike in the daily cases, which were under control post second wave.
According to the Union Health Ministry, over 55 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccine were administered and the positivity rate was lowest since March 2020.
As of yesterday, India reported 25,072 new COVID-19 cases, 44,157 recoveries and 389 deaths.
