It is a well known tradition in India to clean up the house before Deepawali. An annual ritual in most homes, it sparks off hilarious and fond memories, jokes and in today’s times – often a meme fest too! However, in what seemed like taking a condescending dig at this custom, a BBC Hindi tweeted on how “cleaning adds to the woes of the woman in every household!”

Well, in most homes where cleaning is done, it is seen as a family activity and yes, while the lady of the house may be calling the shots most times, it’s not like cleaning is a bad thing. And this is what netizens – ordinary and high-profile ones have called out. While Anshul Saxena, a commentator on current affairs asks, “So now, Diwali has become an anti-women festival because cleaning the house wreaks havoc? Should we stop cleaning our homes before festivals?”

Priti Gandhi, a BJP karyakarta has said, “For the Hindus, Diwali cleaning has special significance because the Goddess of wealth – Lakshmi is visiting their homes. Your Anti-Hindu agenda is well known, @BBCHindi, but by asking people to not clean their homes, you’re making a serious fool of yourself. Get a grip!!”

Many pointed out that this is not the first time that Hindu customs have been the target of condescending language, and hence asked the media house to leave Indian customs alone!

Gautam Adani’s son Jeet with his fiancé Diva
Billionaire industrialist Gautam Adani’s son Jeet Adani got engaged to Diva Jaimin Shah on Sunday. The low-key engagement, which was held in Ahmedabad, was attended by close friends and family members. Diva is the daughter of diamond trader Jaimin Shah of C.Dinesh & Co. Pvt. Ltd.
Jeet Adani pursued his education from the University of Pennsylvania School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and joined the Adani Group in 2019. At present, he’s the Vice President, Group Finance.
As mentioned on the website of Adani Group, Jeet began his career in the Group CFO’s office by looking into Strategic Finance, Capital Markets and Risk & Governance Policy.
The website states that Jeet is also ‘spearheading the Adani Airports business as well as the Adani Digital Labs – which is all set to build a super app to cater to all the consumers of Adani Group businesses.’
Adani’s elder son Karan is married to Paridhi Shroff, who’s the daughter of Cyril Shroff who is the managing partner of law firm – Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas. Karan is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Adani Ports & SEZ Limited and the director of Adani Airport Holdings Limited.
Jeet’s engagement comes at a time when the Adani Group is battling the massive fallout from US short seller Hindenburg Research’s report against Adani Group. Hindenburg alleged Adani of stock manipulation and improper use of tax havens and even flagged concerns over debt levels. However, Adani has rejected the concerns and denied any wrongdoing.

Radhika Merchant and Anant Ambani
The entire Ambani family is in celebratory mode right now. Mukesh Ambani’s youngest son, Anant got engaged to his childhood friend, Radhika Merchant yesterday (December 29).
The couple exchanged rings at the Darbar of Lord Srinathji at Nathdwara, Rajasthan yesterday (December 29). And it is said that even the roka ceremony took place at the temple too.
Radhika is the daughter of industrialist Viren Merchant, CEO of a pharmaceutical manufacturing company. She’s spotted with Anant Ambani on many Ambanis functions.
Later, the couple was received with a lot of naach gaana and live dhol drums in Mumbai. Also present to welcome Anant and Radhika was Bollywood singer Mika Singh, who sang a few of his Bollywood songs.
The roka ceremony in Rajasthan was followed by a grand party hosted by Mukesh Ambani at his Mumbai residence, Antilia in the evening. Be it Shah Rukh, Salman, Ranbir-Alia, Janhvi, Ranveer Singh or Ayan Mukherjee, a host of celebs were present at the engagement do.

Famous industrialist Ratan Tata was born on 28 December 1937. He is celebrating his 85th birthday this year. His love for dogs is legendary; he has a special kennel built for stray dogs at Tata Sons’ headquarters in Mumbai.
