Let 100 Modis, Shahs come, Congress will lead in 2024; people will teach Modi lesson: Mallikarjun Kharge

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said people would teach Prime Minister Narendra Modi a lesson in the 2024 General Elections. He also asserted that the Congress would come to power in 2024.

Addressing a public event in Dimapur, Kharge said, “People will teach you (PM Modi) a lesson in 2024; alliance government will come in Centre, Congress will lead. We’re talking with other parties otherwise democracy and constitution will go. We’re sharing our views on how to win 2024.”

Mallikarjun Kharge added, “(Prime Minister Narendra) Modi has several times said, ‘I am the only man who can face the country. No one can touch me. No democratic man says this. You are in a democracy, you should remember you are not an autocrat. You are not a dictator. You are elected by people and people will teach you a lesson.”

“Therefore, with every party now and then, we are calling, we are talking, we are sharing our views. The BJP will not get a majority. All other parties together, we will get the majority… let 100 Modis or Shah come.”

“Our people have given their lives to get freedom; Congress, not BJP. Tell me has any BJP leader been hanged for freedom, or fought for freedom? Has gone to jail? Instead, a man who brought freedom, Mahatma Gandhi, they killed him. And such people are talking patriotism?” he said.

Chairman of Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said he never imagined he would receive such love and warmth after quitting the Congress party. Azad, on Saturday, remarked, “I had never thought that after leaving Congress, the people of Jammu and Kashmir would receive me with this kind of warmth and love.”

Azad said that after quitting the grand old party, more and more people were joining his new party; they have faith in him. He said, “It gives me more responsibilities and challenges to meet the expectations of people. People feel dejected and disappointed with the present governing system.”

Azad said he aimed to build a better and progressive Jammu Kashmir where the future of youth is secure. He said if his party came to power, he would bring the massive developmental revolution across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

Azad also asserted that his politics was based on inclusiveness, development and peace. Speaking at the public meeting in Eidgah at Srinagar, Azad, said that unlike other parties who try to divide people for political benefit, he aimed to develop Jammu and Kashmir inclusively where each person irrespective of religion, caste and creed felt politically and socially empowered.

Azad concluded, “Be it statehood, land or jobs, I will lead my people from the front to secure their rights. My people are my priority. I have come back to Jammu Kashmir only for my people otherwise, I had all the opportunities I could desire ever in my life.”

After Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde became the chief of Shiv Sena, during the first national executive meeting held on Tuesday evening, the party demanded posthumous Bharat Ratna – the highest civilian award in India – for Hindutva idealogue Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.

The meeting came after the Election Commission (EC) last week recognised the Shinde faction as the real Shiv Sena. During the meeting chaired by Shinde, nine proposals were made.

One of them included rechristening Mumbai’s Churchgate railway station after former Union Finance Minister Chintamanrao Deshmukh. Also, it was proposed to provide 80% employment to the locals and the youth in all the projects of Maharashtra.

A demand was also made to make Marathi the prime language of the state and provide support to Marathi students preparing for UPSC and MPSC. Another resolution demanded inclusion of Sambhaji Maharaj, Veermata Jijabai and Ahilyabai Holkar in the list of ‘national personalities.’
