I was called out for doing ‘cameos’ and ‘small roles’; in India it’s such a big deal: Yami Gautam

Yami Gautam

Yami Gautam, who made her debut in Bollywood as a lead in ‘Vicky Donor’, was tagged for doing ‘cameos’ and ‘small roles’ a few times. Even her role in Hrithik Roshan starrer ‘Kaabil’ was a key one, but limited.

Elaborating, she said, “There were times when it was written, ‘she does cameos or small roles in films’. Even ‘Kaabil’ is one of those films where people thought my role was small. But I’m glad I did that film. In fact, the audience loved the film and my role was praised too.”

But today, when journalists interact with Yami, they praise her about the film. “When I interact with journalists, they’re like, ‘you were so good in that film. And I’m like, ‘no, back then you wrote something else?’. It’s funny,” said Yami.

She also compared Bollywood with Hollywood and said people make a huge deal of everything in India. “Look at Hollywood actors, even the biggest stars out there don’t shy away from doing any kind of roles they wish to. They just don’t care, they come, shoot and leave! Here in India, it’s such a big deal,” added Yami.
