In an extremely disturbing incident, a 17-year-old boy was allegedly beaten by 40 members of a ‘Bonalu’ procession for refusing to chant ‘Jai Shree Ram’ in Hyderabad’s Charmahal area on Thursday (July 21).
As per reports, when the Muslim boy was passing by the procession, some people applied ‘tilak’ on his forehead and asked him to chant ‘Jai Shree Ram.’ When the boy refused, he was abused and thrashed. Tension prevailed in the area following the incident.
After the teen filed a complaint with the Charminar police, a case was registered. At least 14 people were identified and taken into custody in connection with the matter on Friday. The accused have been booked for wrongful restraint, causing hurt and provocation by hurling insults. An investigation into the incident is going on.
