Gujarat Polls 2022, Himachal Pradesh Polls 2022
BJP retained the possession of power for a record seventh consecutive term in Gujarat by acquiring 157 seats out of the total 182 while Congress acquired 17, AAP five and others four on Thursday, December 8. BJP steamrolled the Opposition by leading with a vote share of almost 53 percent.
Speaking about Gujarat election results Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, “AAP has become a national party today. Gujarat elections results are here. AAP was a small party 10 years ago, now it has governments in two states and has become a national party.”
Congress however dethroned BJP in Himachal Pradesh by winning 40 seats out of the total of 68 while BJP stood at 25, AAP at zero, and others at three.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted about Gujarat win. Says that he’s overcome with many emotions
Thank you Gujarat. I am overcome with a lot of emotions seeing the phenomenal election results. People blessed politics of development and at the same time expressed a desire that they want this momentum to continue at a greater pace. I bow to Gujarat’s Jan Shakti.

Congress spokesperson quits ahead of Bharat Jodo Yatra’s last leg in Kashmir

Congress spokesperson Deepika Pushkar Nath
Congress party’s spokesperson Deepika Pushkar Nath has quit just a few days before Bharat Jodo Yatra’s entry in Jammu and Kashmir.
Nath tweeted on January 17 about her decision to resign the Congress. She made it clear that she’s resigning because of former Jammu and Kashmir minister Choudhary Lal Singh joining the Rahul Gandhi-led Yatra. Accusing Lal Singh of backing the accused in 2018 Kathua rape case, Nath said, she cannot share the party platform with him on ideological grounds.
Have a look at the tweet:
In view of Ch.Lal Singh’s proposal of joining @bharatjodo & @INCJammuKashmir allowing the same, I am left with no other option but to resign from @INCIndia
Lal Singh was responsible in sabotaging the Kathua rape case in 2018 by brazenly defending rapists.— Deepika Pushkar Nath (@DeepikaSRajawat) January 17, 2023
Nath, a human rights lawyer based in Jammu, had initially represented Kathua rape victim’s family.
Two-time MP and three-time MLA Lal Singh parted ways with the Congress in 2014, then went on to join BJP. In 2018, he was forced to resign as Forest Minister of J&K. He allegedly expressed support to the accused in the Kathua rape case. He left the BJP in 2019.
Bharat Jodo Yatra will be entering J&K on Friday, January 20.

I will have to be beheaded before entering RSS office: Rahul Gandhi

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, BJP MP Varun Gandhi
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said on January 17 that it is problematic if his estranged cousin BJP MPM Varun Gandhi joins Bharat Jodo Yatra.
The Gandhi scion is in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur for Yatra. He said at a press conference, “Varun is in the BJP and if he walks here, it might be a problem for him.”
“My ideologies don’t match with his. My family adopted an ideology, and Varun adopted another. I can not go to the RSS office. I will have to be beheaded before that,” Rahul added.
Watch Rahul Gandhi’s statements at the press conference here:

Speculation about Varun Gandhi joining Bharat Jodo Yatra, and eventually the Congress made rounds. This happened amid Varun taking stands on people-centric issues on twitter and through print media. Many of his opinions are not in line with the BJP’s official position.
This caused embarrassment to the Central Government, and gave opposition an opportunity to sharpen its attack against BJP. Varun and his mother Maneka Gandhi both are MPs from BJP in Uttar Pradesh. Neither are they a part of any important BJP panel, nor they use the party’s name in their Twitter bios.
Rahul Gandhi’s statements might be a hint to Varun to officially quit BJP and be publicly critical about the BJP-RSS ideology. The wink-wink move may not do.

Nupur Sharma gets gun license by Delhi police amid threats over Prophet remark

Suspended BJP Spokesperson Nupur Sharma
Suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma made headlines due to controversial Prophet remark she made during a TV debate last year. Sharma got a gun license by Delhi Police after she requested it, amid threats over the disputable remark.
Those who came out in her support were also threatened. Two killings have been linked to the controversy. A pharmacist, Umesh Kolhe who supported her, was murdered in Amravati in June. Days later, Kanhaiya Lal, a tailor in Udaipur who had backed Sharma on social media was hacked to death.

Sharma complained of receiving threats to her life. Her lawyer told the Supreme Court that she has “an ever-increasing threat to her safety” and that it is “a real and genuine threat.”
The Supreme Court gave out a scathing remark on Sharma in its July order: “The way she has ignited emotions across the country. This lady is single-handedly responsible for what is happening in the country.”
