Ex-Pakistan President Parvez Musharraf dies after battling rare disease

Former President of Pakistan Parvez Musharraf (79) passed away in Dubai on Sunday morning after battling against a rare disease in Dubai since March 2016. Musharraf, who was undergoing treatment for amyloidosis.

It is a rare disease that occurs when an abnormal protein, called amyloid, builds up in your organs and interferes with their normal function. 

On June 10, his family had issued a statement on Twitter by saying, “He (Musharraf) is not on the ventilator. Has been hospitalized for the last 3 weeks due to a complication of his ailment (Amyloidosis). Going through a difficult stage where recovery is not possible and organs are malfunctioning. Pray for ease in his daily living.”

Musharraf was born on August 11, 1943, in Delhi and completed his early education at St Patrick’s High School in Karachi. He pursued his higher education from Forman Christian College in Lahore.

K Vijaya Rama Rao, former director of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), passed away in a private hospital in Hyderabad on Monday evening due to brain-related health issues at the age of 85.

Rao, who also served as a minister in undivided Andhra Pradesh, was taken to the hospital in the afternoon  after he suffered a brain stroke. He breathed his last at 7 pm. After retirement, Rao served as a minister in the TDP government headed by N Chandrababu Naidu. He  even joined the ruling BRS (then TRS) after the formation of Telangana state.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, Naidu, state Congress President A Revanth Reddy among several leaders condoled the death of Vijayarama Rao. CM Rao said his funeral would be held with state honours.

Interestingly, a 1995-batch officer of the Indian Police Service (IPS), Rao was born in Eturunagaram village in what is now the Mulugu district. He did his schooling in Nellore and studied at Madras University.

He also worked twice as the state’s intelligence chief – first as a DIG in the Jalagam Vengal Rao government and for the second time, in the TD government led by NT Rama Rao.

Mother of Prime Minister Narendra Modi Heeraben passed away on Friday two days after she was admitted to UN Mehta Hospital in Ahmedabad.

Mother of Prime Minister Narendra Modi Heeraben (100) passed away on Friday two days after she was admitted to UN Mehta Hospital in Ahmedabad.

Sharing her picture, PM Modi penned an emotional post on Twitter by saying, “A glorious century rests at the feet of God. In Maa I have always felt that trinity, which contains the journey of an ascetic, the symbol of a selfless Karmayogi and a life committed to values. When I met her on her 100th birthday, she said one thing – Always remember – Work with intelligence, live life with purity.”

On her birthday this year, PM Modi in his blog titled ‘Mother’ wrote, “Today, I feel extremely happy and fortunate to share that my mother Smt. Heeraba is entering her hundredth year. This is going to be her birth centenary year. If my father had been alive, he too would have celebrated his 100th birthday last week. 2022 is a special year as my mother’s centenary year is starting, and my father would have completed his.”

He added, “I have no doubt that everything good in my life, and all that is good in my character, can be attributed to my parents. Today, as I sit in Delhi, I am filled with memories from the past.”

Born on 18 June, 1923, Heeraben Modi’s hometown was Vadnagar in Mehsana, Gujarat. She is survived by five sons – Narendra Modi, Pankaj Modi, Soma Modi, Amrit Modi and Prahlad Modi, and one daughter Vasantiben Hasmukhlal Modi. Heeraben Modi lived in Raysan village near Gandhinagar with her younger son Pankaj.
