The planets rose in the sky above Earth as they continued to move about in their respective orbits.

In an exceptionally rare case, a man was found with a thorn stuck in his eye for two years. Senior ophthalmologist and vitreoretinal surgeon Dr Prashant Bawankule from Nagpur found and removed the thorn. It could have potentially made the person to lose vision in his eye.

The 46-year-old man identified as Prakash Chaudhari, is a farm labourer from Chandrapur’s Chimur. He came in with a complaint of pain in his right eye in the last week of December 2022.

Vitrectomy was performed on the patient. Entire surgical process which would have caused thousands of rupees, was done free of cost under Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya Yojna. Chaudhari doesn’t recall how the thorn got into his eye but he says his vision improved notably and pain subsided immediately after surgery.

As reported by TOI, Dr Bawankule said, “When we removed the blood deposited in his right eye, a thorn was found stuck near the retina. The thorn must have bypassed the eye’s protection system and was moving towards the retina. It would have damaged the retina and resulted in permanent vision loss.”

“Removing thorn from inside part of an eye is a complicated process. But we now have 3D technology to deal with such cases,” Dr added.
