Two days after India reported its 4th case of monkeypox virus in a man in Delhi, two suspected cases have been reported in Chhattisgarh. Two persons from Durg and Kanker district respectively have reported to have symptoms of the virus. Their samples have been sent to National Institute of Virology in Pune for testing.
The first suspected patient is from Durg who has a middle east travel history. His sample was tested at the Shankaracharya Hospital after he complained for rashes and swelling throughout the body.
The second suspected patient is a 13-year-old boy from Kanker district. The child has been isolated after he experienced monkeypox symptoms. He is currently undergoing treatment at Dr Ambedkar Hospital in Raipur. The child too has a middle east travel history. After the two suspected cases, Chhattisgarh Health Department has issued an alert for all district.
So far, four patients of monkeypox have been found in the country, out of which 3 patients are in Kerala, while one patient is from Delhi. Apart from this, even today a suspected patient of monkeypox has been found in Delhi. The patient has been admitted to the hospital and is being treated in the isolation ward. The patient’s sample has been sent to the NIV in Pune.
